About Jan Arabas

I started to explore monotype printmaking after graduating from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in 1983. Always experimental, I love to change up the size, the paper, the combination of subjects, and even the format of prints. Some of my monotypes are mural sized, while others are quite tiny. Papers come from all over the world, including handmade sheets from Tibet and South Africa. I see no reason not to combine hand drawn horses with digital photos of bird skeletons (took them myself at the Harvard Natural History Museum) or put a weasel into a woman's head. Sometimes I make an artist's book out of the print, or build a three dimensional armiture so it can come off the wall and into a room space. And sometimes, I just want to create a traditional print that looks great in a frame on the wall. Here's a little more info--my CV.
